If you looking to lose a fat gut then you will need to look carefully at the type of flat stomach workout you are doing or thinking of doing. A lot of people who try to lose stomach fat tend to focus on abdominal exercises. You know the ones I mean, sit ups, crunches, knee raises and so on. While these types of stomach exercises are important, they are not the most effective ways of losing fat from your midsection.

Stomach exercises are great for making your ab muscles stronger, but the truth is that they do not burn many calories. So if you continue to do ab exercises, your abs will get stronger, but the problem will be that you or anybody else will never be able to see them because of the fat that that is covering them. So what is the answer? The answer is that on top of doing your stomach workouts, you will need to do a workout that is going to burn plenty of calories. There are two ways that you can approach this.

1. Cardiovasculer Exercise -  Cardio training is designed to burn lots of calories, this is because most forms of these exercises tend to target large areas of the body. Remember that your body cannot burn fat from just one specific area, it burns fat as a whole. This means that you will get rid of stomach fat, and fat from other areas. The more calories that you burn, the more you will flatten your stomach.

The type of cardio training that you do will be up to you. You have numerous choices, so try to pick something that you will not find too boring. Even better, you could mix it up a little by doing different types of cardio training. This will reduce the boredem that often comes with many cardio workouts. I was going to say that you should pick a method that you enjoy, but if you are anything like me, then you will not find cardio enjoyable. Unfortunately it is a necessity to get a flat stomach.

Some of the exercises for your workout could include the rowing machine, a cross trainer, a stepper, exercise bike, or even just go for a run. The ones that I have found the most effective are the rowing machine and the stepper. The rower will target all areas of the body, and you will burn a lot of calories. The stepper mainly impacts the lower body, but seeing as that your leg muscles are the largest muscles in your body, working them will also burn lots of calories.

2. Weight Training -

Training with weights serves two purposes. First of all if you are trying to lose fat from the stomach, the calories that you will burn will also come from muscle. This means you will lose some muscle mass, and this is not something that can be considered as being beneficial. Your body has to burn more calories to keep the muscle on your body, so if you lose that muscle, you will burn less calories. Weight training will enable you to keep muscle loss to a small level.

The second purpose of training with weights is that it can give your metabolism a big boost by speeding it up. This is ideal if you want to lose gut fat, or any other type of fat. However you need to focus on the big exercises which target your entire body. The best exercises that I have found that cover all the bases are the squat and the dead lift. You may think that these exercises don’t really have anything in common with a flat stomach workout, but your core really gets some work with these exercises.

The squat and dealift are hard exercises, and that is why so many people avoid doing them, and tend to go for easier exercises, and kid themselves into thinking that they getting a good weight workout. The good news is that you only have to do each exercise once a week with around 3 days rest between each workout. Just do dead lifts on one day, and do squats 3 days later, and that’s it! However try to lift a weight where you are going to struggle to hit 12 reps. Make it challenging, and make sure that you do a bit more at each workout.

Just try sticking to this program for a few weeks and you won’t believe how much stomach fat you will lose. Again, it won’t be easy for the first week or two, but you will soon get into the groove of things. This is the type workout for a flat stomach that you need to be looking at.
