Merit Fitness 715E Elliptical Trainer

Merit Fitness 715E Elliptical Trainer with Heart Rate Monitor and EZ-For-One Assembly

Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity.

By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Customer Review – I am quite erratic when it comes to working out. I’ll admit it. I’ve had gym memberships since I was a kid, and I have a hard time sticking to it. Right before I bought this merit elliptical, I had a $750 per year gym membership, and I hated going. I hated multiple things: the tvs attached to each machine, always broken. The idea of the germs, creeped me out. Also thinking I was being watched and judged..(and I can assure you, the boys were watching the girls in the hot pants and sports bra, not me, who was in an old band T-shirt and work out pants)well, its just not my bag of fun.

So I figured I could get a few key pieces and make myself a little home gym. Then really, what excuse is there?(yes, I can still come up with some, but they tend to be a lot more ridiculous).

So I poked around and found this model in the 300 dollars price range. I went to a sporting equipment store to try a few out. I picked this one because it felt sturdy, smooth and comfortable for my 5′4 height, and I liked the price. I supervised my boyfriend putting it together — ok, so I helped a couple times. It took under 2 hours. Now, I can hop on, watch my own tv, sweat to my hearts desire, and don’t have to worry about my appearance or who’s around me. If I’m thirsty — I get a drink at my own fridge instead of paying a machine. Wanna wipe your face off? the bathroom is a hop and a jump down the hall. No more public ladies locker room with scary naked old women prancing around. To be honest, if you have at least a 5×5 space available to make a little work out area(this and a yoga mat and a few weights are all you need!), totally go for it. You feel a lot better when you’re done, and this is 1/2 the price of a year at the gym. I’ve had my merit elliptical about 3 years now.

Some nice things about this model, I like the different tensions to choose from, and you just turn the knob. It takes batteries to run the little mile/time monitor. Easy as pie to understand. The only thing, the heart rate monitor doesn’t give an accurate reading for me. So I just picked up an inexpensive heart rate monitor watch here on amazon. One small tip: keep the tracks clean, and you’ll be smooth sailing. Sometimes dust or random stuff can end up there and trip up the smooth factor a bit.

Lifecore R99 Rowing Machine

Take your training up a notch with the Lifecore R99 Rower.

With 12 Challenging Preset Programs and 16 levels magnetic resistance, the R99 is ideal for a serious workout. The Large, LCD “Blue Backlit” Computer Display stores data for up to 4 users. The solid steel fan/flywheel and silent drive systems makes the R99 a high quality piece of home fitness equipment for any level of user.

Nicely affordable, the Lifecore R99 rowing machine provides a great club-quality, whole-body workout in your own home.

The R99 features a combination of air and magnetic resistance with 16 levels controlled by the computer monitor, blue backlit console with easy-to-read stats, and folding frame for storage. Whether you already row or are considering rowing to keep in shape, lose weight, cross-train for another sport, compete on the water or rehabilitate from injury or surgery, rowing is the complete exercise for you.

Your whole body gets a complete workout from the efficient, rhythmic motion of rowing–arms, legs, chest, back, abs.

Customer Review – After a lot of research I chose to go with the Lifecore R99 because of the computer controls on it and the small footprint it has when folded up.

After using it I am even more impressed! It has 12 built in standard programs, (not counting the heart rate programs or the custom user programs you can set up), but what is so neat is how you can change the time, level and distance of each program before you even start it, which makes it seem like you have literally hundreds of programs. On all of my other fitness equipment once you master a program you move on to the next, only being able to over-ride as needed while running the program.

I guess I should back up here a bit, the assembly was also very easy, no problems, all parts were there and it was packaged nicely so nothing was damaged. It was a breeze.

The heart rate strap that came with it works so much better than my Polar strap that I have. As soon as I put on the new strap it instantly showed up on my Polar watch and also on the computer of the machine. It works great and I love seeing my heartrate on the screen at all times. As far as the screen goes, it is nice and bright and shows a ton of information, giving you instant feedback as you workout. It also will compute your heart rate recovery status and evaluate your fitness level when you finish your workout.

You can fold this up in about 30 seconds, it takes up very little space but yet while using it you have a very solid, smooth machine, something you would expect out of a much more expensive rower.

When researching I looked at rowers in the price range of $500.00 – $1,300.00, and none of them had all of the user features I was looking for. I am thrilled that this has turned out to be even better than I was expecting.

Most importantly, it gives you a great, enjoyable workout!

Customer Review – My wife and I were feeling depressingly out of shape from our very busy lives and really wanted to do something about it. Gyms were too expensive and time consuming, plus we knew we’d end up not going after a while if we ever did join. Money being an issue, we were still determined to do *something* and figured that investing in our health would be money well spent. So we decided on a low impact aerobic home machine in the form of an elliptical.

We began our research by visiting my brother’s home where he had just purchased a Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer. The machine was beautiful, small, quiet, and worked really well. I was like, “this is it!” because then we’d be done and on our way. But at a thousand dollars (at the time), we decided that we really needed to do more research to see if there was something equivalent or better for less money.

After reading hundreds of reviews online for basic all the way to super fancy models and visiting 4-5 stores to actually try out whatever we could find, we decided on the 420 and haven’t looked back. It was only slightly bigger than that Lifecore, a bit less beautiful (which we decided we could live with), and was quiet. What sold us completely was the smoothness of motion due to the articulating foot pedals. I cannot tell you what a differentiator that one feature is. If you think about a natural walking motion, not only do your legs move in an elliptical pattern, but your feet flip up and down at your ankle. A majority of elliptical machines have flat foot surfaces which feel fine at first, but after you get on a machine with articulation, you wonder why all machines aren’t built the same way.

The delivery guys were great and between the two of us, we carefully put it together in about 2 hours. Another great feature of the 420 is that is has wheels, so even though it’s heavy, you can assemble it a bigger room and then roll it to where you’re going to use it.

We’ve had the 420 for about a year now, and it went from being almost completely silent to having a slight squeak every now and again. We read reviews that recommended to not over tighten during assembly and I think it was good advice. The only maintenance I’ve had to perform besides dusting it and vacuuming detritus from the wheel tracks was to retighten the connection to the arms which had come a bit loose from usage.

Overall, the Schwinn 420 is a fantastic value, and in my opinion, the best elliptical I’ve ever been on (including what I used to use at 24 fitness).

Oh yeah, one more thing… some folks seemed *really* upset that this machine has a spot for a water bottle holder, but it doesn’t actually come with one. It looks like it would easily accept the kind of water bottle holders that you’d screw onto a bike, but that was not a feature we cared about, so it wasn’t a big deal.

WaterRower Club Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor

The WaterRower Club Rowing Machine is handcrafted from solid Ash wood, finished with a black and rose stain and danish oil.

The WaterRower’s patented WaterFlywheel has been specifically designed to emulate the dynamics of a boat moving though water and is unsurpassed in its simulation of the physical and physiological benefits of rowing.

Rowing has long been recognized as the perfect aerobic pursuit, with naturally smooth and flowing movements that don’t tax the joints but do boost the heart rate. Now you can take your rowing experience to the next level with the commercial-quality WaterRower Club rowing machine.

Using the same principles that govern the dynamics of a boat in water, the WaterRower Club is outfitted with a “water flywheel” that consists of two paddles in an enclosed tank of water that provide smooth, quiet resistance, just like the paddles in an actual body of water. As a result, the machine has no moving parts that can wear out over time (even the recoil belt and pulleys don’t require lubricating or maintaining). More significantly, the water tank and flywheel create a self-regulating resistance system that eliminates the need for a motor.

As with real rowing, when you paddle faster, the increased drag provides more resistance. When you paddle slower, the resistance is less intense. The only limit to how fast you can row is your strength and your ability to overcome drag. And unlike conventional rowing machines, which tend to be jerky and jarring, the WaterRower Club is remarkably smooth and fluid.

Customer Review – I used to row for USC Crew Team back in 1992, and we used to train on the wind based rowing machines, I don’t remember the brands, but they were very basic in comparison to the modern machines with there awesome computers. I’ve recently tried the Concept 2, and it was great, and seems to be to the standard workout equipment for serious crew members, but it’s big and bulky, and not as easy to store, unless you have a dedicated gym room in your home.

The WaterRower, on the other hand, is easy to flip up and put in the corner of my bedroom. I roll it out on my balcony in the morning to enjoy the cool breeze while I row. I try to fit my workout in the morning before the baby wakes up, and I have no problem hearing him over the whoosh of the water. The WaterRower S4 computer isn’t as feature rich as the PM3/4 on the concept 2, but it has all that I need, since I just like to do basic 10km or 45 min sessions with a heartmonitor. I really do enjoy the sound of the water, it does remind me of hearing the water run up against a fiberglass hull of a boat, and the dripping of water between each stroke.I haven’t been in a crew boat is years, but the memories come back when I’m on the waterrower, and not so much on the concept 2.

I would consider myself a intermediate athlete, and this machine truly challenges me. I expect I’ll get many years of use out of it. It is made of very good quality components, and looks great.

I highly recommended rowing to anyone looking for a very aerobic workout that uses more than 80% of your body’s muscle groups. If you’re not getting an awesome workout, you’re probably not rowing right. Try join a rowing club for a few months to perfect your technique, then you’ll be set for working out at home.

Though it is pricey, I think it is worth the investment, since the experience is so much better then the piston or wind based machines, which makes me look forward to the next workout.

The RX-750 employs an innovative Hydro-Power Drive system that mimics the dynamics of actual rowing, with a polycarbonate water tank and an internal paddle system sitting at your feet. Just like with real rowing, the water acts as the main resistance system. Want a more intense workout? Row faster. Want a slow but steady workout? Row slower. There’s no need for any disruptive mechanical adjustments; instead, the water’s “natural adaptive resistance” offers all the pushback you need. In addition, the workout is incredibly smooth and relaxing, with an on-the-water experience that feels and sounds just like the real thing.

Customer Review – I had two concerns about buying a rowing machine: first that I weigh over the 250 pound limit of most rowers out there, and second that I live in a second story apartment so noise is definitely a factor. I was pleased to find this machine on a good sale, and when it arrived I was able to put it together without much trouble (the instructions weren’t the clearest, but it was pretty common sense). After having used it several times now, I can safely say that this rower put all my worries to rest!

is a very sturdy machine, comfortable and easy to use. And the only noise comes from the blades pushing the water, so it is very relaxing and no complaints from the downstairs neighbors. The monitor is easy to read, and as an added perk, it comes with a heart rate chest strap. I used to enjoy rowing at the gym, and now I am excited to have a quality machine in my own home.
